Under the supervision of the Project / Maintenance Manager, the Marine Electrician is responsible for coordinating and executing repairs, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on including, but not limited to, indoor lighting systems; electrical systems and apparatus; main power distribution systems and panel boards; outdoor facility lighting; construction projects and HVAC systems, including on ships / vessels. The Marine Electrician installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities, following blueprints and wiring diagrams. Marine Electrician is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment, as well as inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or necessary repairs. Responsibilities
Major Job Activities:
+ Installs conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires through conduit to terminals, for example connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels.
+ Performs maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits. Examine electrical system of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, like ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to confirm compatibility of system.
+ Installs and alters electrical systems aboard ships.
+ Strips insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron. Connects power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment. Place passage pipes, or tubing, within selected partitions, walls, or alternative hidden areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the passage to finish circuits between boxes.
+ Tests electrical characteristics, for example, voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators.
+ Troubleshoots electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and perform required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements.
+ Maintains adequate inventories of electrical spare parts and requisitions replacements as required.
+ Understands the use of all tools of the electrical trade and expected to accomplish more complex tasks associated with electrical installation of cable, connectors, panel box, and power terminations, etc.
+ Diagnoses faulty systems, apparatus, or parts, using equipment and hand tools.
