a. Patient Care
- Able to screen, assess, conduct interviews, and counsel the patient/client regarding his nutritional requirements based on attending physicians' diet orders, clinical history, health, medication profile, physical attributes and activity, personal habits, and other pertinent medical data;
- Assesses the effect of psychosocial, functional, and behavioral factors, including the family's nutritional knowledge that may affect the nutrition and dietary requirements of the patient/client and adjust accordingly;
- Able to determine the cause of the patient's/client's nutritional problems and inform the attending physician and other caregivers;
- Formulates and implements personalized nutrition regimen based on the orders of the attending physician, patient's/client's needs, medical condition, and dietary restrictions;
- Collaborates with and may suggest to the attending physician on appropriate diet and nutrition for the patient/client;
- Provides necessary education and training to the patient/client and relatives on proper nutrition and healthy diet as part of their medical treatment and therapy;
- Suggests substitution if components of meals are not available based on prescribed diet;
- Provides daily calorie counts when necessary or ordered by the attending physician.
- Provides the nutritional value of recipes served by the Dietary Unit, Hospital Canteen, or food provided when required;
- Ensures that the patient's/client's consultation schedule is implemented;
- Monitors patient's/client's progress and compliance with the prescribed diet to contribute to the resolution of the medical condition and achievement of nutritional/medical/weight management goals;
- Guides and supports patients/clients in their individualized dietary needs considering the medical condition and diagnosis;
- Accurately documents patient's/client's comprehensive nutritional assessments, dietary history, intervention, and outcomes through their medical records, including daily meal census, diet cards, and marketing reports; and,
- Conducts consultations for admitted and out-patients on nutritional assessment, weight management, co-morbid medical conditions, and diseases with regards to meals and diet planning, including feedback to the patient's/client's relatives.
b. Interhospital Cooperation and Collaboration
- Collaborates with the Dietary Unit, Hospital Canteen, and other food providers to guarantee that meals are served as compliant based on prescribed diets by their attending physician, special needs, and preferences;
- Collaborates with the Dietary Unit, Canteen, and food providers in the review and modification of room service meal selections when necessary;
- Oversees and inspects the quality and distribution of proper therapeutic and regular diets, including tube and parenteral feedings of admitted patients; and,
- May participate in multi-disciplinary meetings, committees, and projects of the hospital if required.
c. Administrative Duties
- Must ensure that inventory of all dietary equipment, utensils, and food supplies are adequate, including those in the Dietary Unit, Hospital Canteen, and other food providers;
- Ensures compliance of requirements for all licenses and DOH requirements regarding the Dietary Unit and the Hospital Canteen particularly on sanitation and food safety;
- Prepares and implements the duty schedule and manpower staffing of the Unit to ensure continuous and efficient operations;
- Ensures that all yearly KPIs and KRAs of the staff are met;
- Knowledgeable on the Units' profitability and cost management in accordance with the financial targets of the institution;
- Collaborates with outsourced services and other medical institutions on nutrition and diet if applicable;
- Ensures the on-boarding of new staff members by providing adequate orientation and training on standard operating procedures and hospital protocols;
- Upholds high standards of patient/client satisfaction and experience;
- Provides lectures, seminars, training, and workshops on nutrition for the dietary and hospital staff, patients/clients, and the community;
- Provides necessary information in policy formation, and hospital guidelines to improve the dietary services of the institution; and,
- Plans and implements the Unit's Quality Assurance Program in accordance with the hospital's standards and other government licensing and accrediting bodies.
