DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements.

Ø Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.

EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Ø Requires bachelor's degree in nursing and must be a Registered Nurse.

Ø Completed Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) / Basic Life Support (BLS)

REQUIRED SKILLS

· Strong communication skills: Throughout the day you have to relay a lot of information to medical staff and patients. How you communicate with each person is very important. Patients will need less jargon and more explanation, whereas doctors will need concise medical summaries.

· Empathy and understanding: Patients are often nervous and scared, and so are their families. You need a caring and compassionate attitude to be successful as a staff nurse.

· Patience and flexibility: Any number of things can happen during the shift of a staff nurse. You have to adapt to whatever the day brings, and be prepared for quickly changing priorities. Patients are feeling their worst and could be quite irritable. Patience is key.

Patient Admission:

• Interview incoming patients or their representatives to obtain and record necessary information.
• Enter patient admission data into the computer system and forward printed copies to the concerned departments.

• File received claims accordingly and follow up with HMOs on payments at least twice a month, providing proof of follow-up and coordinating with the Accounting Office for record updates.

HMO Approval and Accreditation:

• Maintain updated files of all HMOs, including policies, procedures, coverage guidelines, and the list of accredited doctors.
• Facilitate medical staff accreditation by distributing forms, collecting necessary documents, and forwarding them to the HMO coordinator for approval.
• Coordinate with the General Services Head regarding newly hired medical staff interested in HMO accreditation.
• Secure Letters of Authorization (LOA) or Letters of Guarantee (LOG) for services via phone, text, or online communication.

HMO Patient Handling:

• OPD Cases: Verify member IDs, inform cardholders of affiliated doctors and their specializations, and assist in scheduling appointments.
• IPD Cases: Verify coverage based on the order sheet and member ID, notify the company guarantor, and assist patients with admission documentation.

Reporting and Documentation:

• Encode reports, memos, and correspondence related to HMO operations and admissions.
• Prepare a monthly statistical report on HMO utilization and admissions.

General:

• Perform other related tasks as may be assigned from time to time to support hospital operations and patient services.
