STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - Design Department
The Façade Structural Engineer manages and provides formal documentations for the structural calculations for all structural components of all the façade wall types. He/She initiates decisions and necessary corrective measures for all structural issues regarding shop and fabrication drawing works. Each significant decision or corrective measure is properly-recorded and discussed with the Façade Designers and Senior Structural Engineers.
The Façade Structural Engineer ensures that needed approvals of structural calculations from the project or client structural engineers are satisfied in a timely manner considering the integral due dates of shop and fabrication submissions. He/She actively participates in and provides inputs in the structural design process for the shop-drawings, fabrication drawings, and all other tasks pertaining to structural documentations to complete the deliverables under their responsibility.
He/she must have a good working knowledge in curtain wall design involving architects' and structural requirements, project scope, façade design intent development, requirements as per specifications, programme and cost value engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews and interprets architectural and structural drawings, façade architectural design intent, and project specifications
- Reviews and responds to all correspondences for the project and initiates communication or Request for Information (RFI's) when needed to ensure information requirements are acquired to resolve open issues and provide timely structural deliverables; the correspondences must be structured, filed, and coordinated with the Document Controller.
- Provides actual progress or status report of works, delays, schedule of resources and distribution of work load to structural team members
- Conducts regular meetings with the department team members when needed and attends meetings as advised or required by the department head
- Ensures that structural design works are finished and submitted within the scheduled time frame required for the project
- Initiates, develops, and interacts with team members to ensure that all structural requirements and assumptions are correctly-reflected on shop and fabrication drawings
- Ensures that structural design requirements are well-understood by the designers involved in the tasks
- Together with subordinates, checks and reviews if all structural requirements are properly- coordinated and included in the shop and fabrication drawings
- Familiarizes oneself with the progress of all the delegated submittal document packages of the project by communicating with internal (ALT) and external clients
- Provides support to other department team members working on other packages as advised and required by their superiors
- Actively initiates and participates in project issue awareness and problem-solving; cooperates with, supports, and guides other project team members, and promotes partnering philosophy at all times
- Demonstrates leadership among team members and motivates them to deliver effectively
- Takes minutes of meetings (MOM) and issues to relevant parties (project emails and all concerned) within the next twenty-four (24) hours
Skills and Qualifications:
- Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Must have at least three (3) years' experience in the façade/curtain wall industry
- Should be able to read and interpret façade system design and relate to structural engineering
- Should be able to understand the requirements and approach to façade/curtain wall structural design
- Should be able to do framing analysis using structural computer models
- Should be able to do finite element analysis to investigate requirements for stresses, reaction loads, deflections, etc.
- Should be able to assess the correctness of computer models and be able to interpret and troubleshoot instabilities in the model
- Must be familiar with MathCAD structural software for structural calculation documentation
- Must be knowledgeable about STAAD Pro and Strand 7 structural software
- Must be knowledgeable about AutoCAD software
- Must have a good quality of work and organized presentation of calculation
- Must have good communication skills
- Should be able to monitor work progress and delegate and manage work assignments of subordinates
- Must be capable of handling multiple tasks, working under pressure, and performing under minimal supervision

- Perform structural analysis, member sizing, and detailing for RC, structural steel, and masonry/CHB systems: footings, tie beams, columns, beams, slabs, stairs, canopies, trusses, retaining/perimeter walls, septic tanks, and ancillary structures.
- Prepare sealed (as applicable) design calculations, GA drawings, shop drawings, bar bending schedules, and specifications.
- Execute foundation design (isolated/combined/strip/raft; basic pile caps if applicable) using soil parameters from geotechnical reports.
- Produce temporary works concepts (formwork, shoring, scaffolding, falsework) for constructability and safety.
- Run value engineering—optimize rebar, concrete volumes, and connection details without compromising safety or code.
