MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Performs proper phlebotomy, including venipuncture, capillary puncture and arterial puncture on emergency, in-patient and out-patient requiring laboratory testing

o Follows patient preparation protocols and proper patient identification

o Monitors and replenishes supplies for phlebotomy and cleans the warding box before and after use

o Answers laboratory phone calls with courtesy using the standard telephone spiel

• Performs Blood Bank duties and responsibilities which includes:

o Performs phlebotomy and collection procedures to collect blood or blood components

o Obtains vitals, interviews and selects donors

o Performs blood typing and hemoglobin & hematocrit determination

o Prepares, monitors and replenishes supplies for mass blood donation

o Ensures safety and comfort among donors during the blood donation program

o Labels collected blood and processes blood components (red cells, plasma, platelets and other components) for transfusion.

• Performs Swabber duties and responsibilities which includes:

o Obtains nasopharyngeal (NPS) and oropharyngeal swabs (OPS) for COVID-19 RT-PCR and rapid antigen testing (RAGT) and other infectious diseases testing

o Interviews patient for completion of the required forms needed investigation and testing

o Completes the documentary requirements needed for testing

o Monitors and replenishes supplies for COVID-19 testing

o Sends daily census and other reports to the management, DOH and other government reporting agencies

o Coordinates and sends the collected specimen to the Molecular Laboratory for processing

• Maintains the 5S Principle of the hospital and maintains clean and safe working environment by following established biosafety and biosecurity protocols and practices including hand washing, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE), biohazards, exposure control plan, and infection control to include universal precautions, hygiene standards, and proper disposal and segregation of infectious wastes.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in the continuing program development; attending meetings, seminars, trainings, conventions and team buildings; as required by the hospital and in general as licensure requirements and promotes the camaraderie and team work amongst co-staff.
• Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a section / unit / department / division to meet its goals and objectives and performs other duties and responsibilities the Head of Laboratory, Pathologist, Manager/Associate Manager, Supervisor, Team Leader and the management may assign.

QUALIFICATIONS:

a. None yet preferably worked as a phlebotomist or swabber for at least six (6) months (hospital, clinic or free standing setting)

Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology /

Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science or

Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing

b. Certificate of Training / Seminar / Convention (as an advantage)

• Phlebotomy training
• NPS and OPS training

a. With knowledge and skills in the phlebotomy and specimen collection, attention to detail, patience and presence of mind

b. Willingness to work on weekends, holidays, irregular hours and be on call

c. Has initiative in problem solving and decision making

d. Good team player

e. With good communication skills both in written and oral English

f. With good computer skills (LIS and HIS knowledge is a plus)
