About the Job
The Container Yard Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the container yard of PSACC. The incumbent's tasks encompass various responsibilities to ensure the smooth and efficient handling of containers, yard equipment, trucking and dispatching, CY optimization among others.
The incumbent is also responsible for leading the CY team through effective communication and creation of CY KPI aligned to PSACC objectives.
Container Yard Operation
Oversee and monitor the CY Operation and ensure that all SLAs are achieved.
- Oversee and supervise the activities of the container yard, including container handling, storage, and transportation and ensure that the SLAs like truck dwell time are being achieved.
- Plan and organize the layout of the yard to maximize space and efficiency through collaboration with the Head of National Shore Operation, Head of Terminal Network Operation, CY Operation Officer, CCO and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that all yard equipment, such as containers, forklifts, and cranes, are properly maintained and serviced through coordination and monitor of this equipment with LBE.
- Keep track of container inventory, including incoming and outgoing shipment, allocation of Container Vans and other van related activities.
- Ensure high level of customer service through proper coordination and communication with partners and clients, proper allocation of spaces of consolidators inside CY.
- Provide support to the Cold Chain Operation in CY ensuring smooth and efficient movement of Cold Chain Container Vans inside the container yard.
- Conduct daily shift meetings with key CY personnel to check and monitor the daily activities.
- Manage the yard's budget, including expenses related to personnel, equipment maintenance, and yard operations and identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-effective measures.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on yard operations, including container movements, dwell time among others and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the timely availability of equipment, spare parts, and other necessary resources
- Enforce safety protocols to protect employees and cargo
- Maintain accurate records of container movements, including arrivals, departures, and transshipments
- Ensure compliance with local regulations governing container handling and shipping and stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments in yard operations
- Implement environmental best practices, such as waste management and pollution control, to minimize the yard's impact on the environment
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for incidents such as accidents, fires, or natural disasters
Leadership and Administrative Function
Ensure the efficient, effective and high performing CY team.
- Recruit, train and develop the transportation team members.
- Inspire and motivate team members and promptly address conflicts or disputes with the team.
- Set, monitor and assess individual goals and performance metrics of the team members according to the sectional, departmental and divisional objectives.
- Maintain open and transparent communication within the team.
- Ensure that all the day-to-day administrative duties are done on time.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain management or other related courses.
- Minimum of 7 years of Experience in container yard operation, yard management and other related experiences
- Familiarity with container handling equipment and yard management.
- Proficiency in tracking, managing, and optimizing container inventory within the yard
- Ability to design and organize the yard layout to maximize space utilization, streamline container movements, and minimize congestion.
- Familiarity with various container types, sizes, and specifications.
- Understanding of container inspection procedures, including identifying damages, structural integrity, and ensuring containers meet international shipping standards
