The Tax Advisory Manager leads and manages multiple tax engagements to ensure quality output and services delivery. S/he helps businesses with their tax-related issues, counsels and oversees tax-related activities, and acts as a financial advisor to clients.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Engagement Management
- Ensure that pre-engagement procedures are accomplished, such as the preparation of the client acceptance form and conflict check
- Make the necessary planning required for the accomplishment of the engagement and discusses the same with the team
- Supervise the preparation of draft proposals and presentation materials, as required, for review of partners
- Supervise the conduct of engagements, including the preparation of programs and staffing plans
- Assess the engagement-related issues and risks, and develops proactive plans to mitigate such risks
- Suggest appropriate solutions to tax planning and risk issues, keeps client and team members informed of issues
- Anticipate and analyzes issues and questions before drawing conclusions or requesting assistance
- Deal with relevant government agencies/offices as necessary
- Manage engagement's objectives, ensuring the appropriate timeframe, resources and sequencing of work efforts are applied
- Make timely and accurate decisions
- Take control of the engagement, knowing at all times what progress has been made with regards to the work plan
- Deliver results and services on time, within budget and at the quality level required by the Firm and the client
- Supervise multiple projects/duties simultaneously
- Communicate and negotiate with local government as need arises
- Evaluate and assess complicated tax issues
- Stay abreast on the changes with regulations and tax laws and devise strategies to solve any financial issue that may arise
- Keep accurate records and develop plans to solve financial issues that affect clients

Client Relations
- Stays abreast of new tax developments and understands their links to and impact on the business of the client
- Develops and maintains favorable relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels
Team Management and Mentoring
- Work with team to set clear goals and objectives
- Act to promote a positive working environment wherein camaraderie and productivity are well-balanced
- Keep the team focused on achieving objectives and promotes efficient workflow by constantly communicating information and updates relevant to the engagement
- Provide guidance and expertise to team members and clients on tax issues/developments
- Provide timely performance reviews and give specific and balanced feedback
- Communicate comprehensive expectations and gives people the authority and latitude to act
Administrative Functions
- Act as program leader in various in-house trainings and workshops
- Effectively take charge of billing clients and following up payments
- From time to time, undertake special projects and performs various administrative work assigned by partners
- Initiate billings to clients and undertake collection efforts
- Provide accurate and updated information on time charges
Business Development
- Seek information to understand client's needs and effectively present the Firm's ability to meet these needs
- Present knowledge of the Firm's resources, products and services in a manner that builds client confidence
- Take initiative in offering new products or services to existing clients
- Focus on pursuit management to ensure efficient sales
Qualifications
- Lawyer or CPA-Lawyer
- At least six years of experience in taxation, three of which in supervisory position
