This role is a key member of the engineering team, acting as an intermediary between the business teams and the data itself. Additionally, as the company grows its suite of first-party and third-party data assets, this role will work closely with both business teams and engineering teams to identify areas of improvement for data access and our overall data ecosystem – proposing ideas and implementing solutions for validation, automation, new tooling, and improved processes.
Your Impact
- Integrate big-data scale behavioral data (clickstream, search terms, etc) with first party survey data to provide a holistic view of the entertainment, technology, lifestyle, sports, and gaming consumer.
- Use SQL to query a variety of databases (Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, and Postgres) to provide data outputs for client and client service team requests for data that cannot be pulled by any other application or tool.
- Identify tasks suitable for automation and work with engineering teams to implement a programmatic solution.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.
- Conduct regular audits and identify anomalies in market research datasets.
- Implement, maintain, and monitor ETL processes to manage data flows between systems.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database processes, quality control procedures, and integrations.
- Design and implement quality control processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency across relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, and Postgres) and data warehouses (Snowflake).
- Maintain and optimize database structures (schemas, indexes, stored procedures, views, etc) to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and aggregation.
- Utilize third party software (e.g. eTabs) to generate and automate reporting outputs.
Who We're Looking For
- You are an expert in writing efficient, readable, and maintainable SQL.
- You are proficient in tuning queries and databases.
- You are an exceptional communicator, recognizing that a core component of your role is to act as a translator between (non-technical) humans and (technical) machines.
- You love writing SQL but you also dabble in programming languages, preferably Python.
- You have a strong understanding of ETL processes and data integration best practices.
- You understand distinctions between data warehousing and operational (transactional) databases, and you have strong opinions on how to structure data for both.
- You have adopted AI tools such as ChatGPT or Copilot to boost your productivity and creativity.
- You are able to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical teammates.
- You are detail oriented, able to keep track of tasks, dependencies, and deliverables, without missing small aspects.
Required Qualifications
- Expertise in SQL for querying and manipulating data across large datasets.
