Job Summary:
Handles the Science laboratory facilities and equipment of the school and assists the students and teachers on a day to day basis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably related to Physical or Life Science with laboratory background
- At least 1-2 years of related experience
- Proficient in productivity applications, both installed and cloud-based apps
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares, sets-up, delivers and monitors all materials, chemicals and equipment needed for lab experiments and practical exams that will be conducted by teachers in the department.
- Manages the inventory, storage, and disposal of all materials, chemicals and equipment in all laboratory rooms and preparation rooms within the department - to relevant local and international standards - through a computer-based system.
- Maintains the organization and cleanliness of the classroom facility and preparation rooms as well as the materials and equipment located in the facility, adhering to a documented system aligned with modern laboratory practices.
- Completes an advance "dry run" for experiments that have not been conducted previously to test the effectiveness of the procedure.
- Modifies lab procedures where necessary to provide an experiment to meet the goals and objectives as stated in the teacher's lesson plan or in the laboratory procedure.
- Demonstrates the proper use of all materials, chemicals, and equipment to teachers and students when requested.
- Keeps computer files showing the proper mixing of solutions used in the department, as well as protocols for lab experiments.
- Maintains the pond and preparation rooms.
- Practices safe and environmentally conscious disposal of all used and expired chemicals and all broken and inoperable equipment.
- Provides proper storage and labelling of all materials, chemicals and equipment.
- Cleans and checks all fume hoods, gas outlets, faucets, sinks and pipes.
- Purchases local supplies when needed.
- Liaises with the purchasing department to follow up with orders related to the annual budget.
- Collects samples, e.g. water from river, leaves, when needed.
Proactively tests equipment, liaises with distributors/representatives to avail of service and warranties, etc.
Cleans glassware and provides feedback to teachers when students have not cleaned their lab equipment.
- Helps with emergencies, e.g. chemical spills, broken glassware.
- Fosters and sustains a community that rejects all forms of discrimination.
- Assists in developing and maintaining safe spaces for all individuals at ISM.
- Provides assistance to Program Leaders for yearly budget items based on accurate record keeping of Science inventory and needs of the Science curriculum.
- Perform other duties when requested to do so by the science department faculty or the administration.
