BACKGROUND

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an International independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from health care. MSF offers assistance to people based on need irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.

Medecins Sans Frontieres started working in the Philippines in 1984 but has a permanent presence since the Typhoon Haiyan response in 2013.

We are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, logistics experts, administrators, and many other types of support staff.

PROJECT

In 2019, a concept around TB intervention was formulated after recognizing the humanitarian space we can fill. This came after concluding our 5-year Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) project in Tondo and realizing that TB prevention and care can definitely be an area of focus in the same location.

The project is especially relevant in the context of COVID-19 and aims to search, treat and prevent TB, and mitigate the anticipated effects of the pandemic in morbidity and mortality due to TB. This is carried out in partnership with the Manila City Health Department and in support of the National TB Program.

There are 4 components of the project: (1) Health Promotion and education (2) Active Case Finding, (3) Contact Investigation and TB Preventive Treatment and, (4) Operational Research.

The Tondo TB Project of Médecins Sans Frontières - Philippine Branch is looking for a QUALITY RESEARCH TRANSCRIBER.

Study Title: "Assessing the Uptake and the Feasibility of implementing 4-month Treatment for Children and Adolescents with Non-severe (NS) Drug Susceptible Tuberculosis (DS-TB)"

Contract Duration: Project term contract (with possibility of extension)

Main Purpose

Carrying out the transcription and translation of audio recorded patient, healthcare worker, and key stakeholder interviews and community leader focus group discussions for qualitative research ensuring data quality/reliability, according to MSF approved protocol and maintaining confidentiality while producing the study results.

Accountabilities:

  • Transcribing and translating in depth interviews and focus group discussions related to qualitative research to produce results that are comprehensive and accurate and ensures that local populations are actively included in the research and programmes that affect them
  • Ensuring transcribed and translated is consistently accurate and complete.
  • Being responsible for ensuring immediate reporting to the supervisor of any anomalies during transcription and/or translation.
  • Filling documents according to research protocol and standards

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

  • Attending and participating in qualitative research training and tool piloting activities;
  • Managing data transfer, storage, maintenance of files and eventual disposal of data;
  • Transcribing all English language audio-recorded interviews into English language transcripts;
  • Transcribing and translating all Filipino/Tagalog language audio-recorded interviews and focus group discussions into English language transcripts;
  • Requesting equipment or supplies necessary for the project and responsible for its inventories;
  • Attending and participating in study team meetings;
  • Performing all other tasks that may be validly delegated in furtherance of the Tondo TB project objectives.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Essential, higher education with proven computer literacy.
  • Experience: Training or experience in transcription of audio-recorded interviews and focus group discussions. Training or experience in translation from Filipino/Tagalog to English. Training or experience in translation of health-related terminology
  • Languages: Proficient in English and Tagalog, both oral and written
  • Competences : Results and Quality Orientation L1, Teamwork and Cooperation L1, Behavioural Flexibility L1, Commitment to MSF Principles L1, Stress Management L2
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (MS Office, Other tools and internet)
