This is a specialized position in the field of radiologic technology which handles to patient care and treatment delivery involving cancer patients. Their service should be in accordance with the regulatory requirement set by the Department of Health (DOH), Food and Drug Administration – Center for Device Regulation Radiation Health and Research (FDA-CDRRHR) and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). He/she must follow the designation and other responsibilities as supervised by the Senior Radiation Therapy Technologist (SR RTT) and Medical Physicist Level IV and above. He/she will be designated into certain levels depending on his competencies and experience in the field.

Job Summary:
The Radiation Therapy Technologist coordinates, plans, and administers high quality and comprehensive age/disease appropriate radiotherapy to oncology patients of all age groups by utilizing equipment, computers, and established techniques to ensure positive patient experience. Demonstrating radiation safety standards with patient and staff members is essential while following the code of ethics and practice standards. The incumbent ensures accurate patient set-up and delivers a planned course of radiation therapy effectively, safely and of quality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Position patients for treatment with accuracy, according to prescription
- Administer prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards
- Check radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation
- Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification
- Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others
- Maintain records, reports, or files required, including such information as radiation dosages, equipment settings, or patients reaction
- Conduct most treatment sessions independently, in accordance with long- term treatment plan and under the general direction of the patient's physician
- Conducts daily test runs and routine checks of the CT-simulator and Linear Accelerator machines and ensures their basic operational safety, mechanical and radiation accuracy.
- Ensures that appropriate radiation safety procedures and protection, implemented to safeguard patients and co-workers.
- Safely utilizes the Linear Accelerator, CT simulator and other equipment in the planning and delivery of treatment.
- Analyzes and carries out doctor's orders in conformity with the existing protocols and legal limitations.
- Collaborates with the medical physicist, radiation oncologist and other involved medical personnel in the planning and delivery of treatment.
- Construct custom made radiotherapy blocks according to the treatment plan.
- Enter data into computer and set controls to operate or adjust equipment or regulate dosage
- Maintain files and radiotherapy records and ensure availability when needed but keep patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ensures that inventory of medical supplies and materials is updated regularly.
- Practices standard and accurate recording and reporting; and ensuring that all patients' medical records are complete and properly accounted for.
- Evaluates care and treatment rendered and reports pertinent observation findings to the members of the healthcare team
- Observe and reassure patients during treatment and report unusual reactions to physician
- Assists and helps in the orientation of newly hired radiation therapists.
- Ensures functionality, maintenance and availability of supplies, equipment, and facilities necessary for patient care.
- Handles equipment carefully.
- Adheres to unit policies, work instructions, and code of discipline.
- Maintains professionalism and accountability at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology
- Registered Radiologic Technologist.
- Satisfactory completion of formal Radiation Therapy training.
- Current BLS
- Radiation Therapist must be able to work proficiently with all types of Varian, Siemens, and TomoTherapy machines utilizing the latest treatment techniques including 3D Conformal, IMRT, IGRT, SRS/SBRT, and brachytherapy procedures.
- Ability to work independently and manage scheduling of all areas to include simulation and treatment.
- Extensive CT/Simulation experience in all areas of radiation therapy to include, brachytherapy and immobilization fabrication.
- Experience with clinical set ups and contours.
- Coordinate all aspects of treatment with different departments to include Physician/Physics/Dosimetry.
- Ability to understand dosimetry plans and calculations.
- Excellent computer skills related to basic office, record and verify, and EMR.
- High confidence level
- Excellent patient care skills—must be able to access patient's needs and use good judgment for requesting medical attention.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to assess different situations and implement suggestions or changes as needed
- Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity to patients, family and significant others.
