Remote Mechanical Estimator - with Simpro Experience (Dayshift, WFH) Company : AU HVAC Work schedule: Dayshift, 10AM-7PM AEST Target start date: ASAP VA rate: $11-12 AUD Full time, 40 hours JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an experienced HVAC / Mechanical Estimator to support our growing portfolio of high-quality hydronic heating, air conditioning, and mechanical projects. This role is ideal for a technically strong, detail-oriented professional with proven experience in mechanical design and estimation for Australian projects. You’ll work directly with the Director on technical matters and collaborate closely with the Office Manager (Project Admin/Coordinator) for day-to-day inquiries, client communications, and project administration. Responsibilities: Estimating & Design ● Prepare accurate estimations, designs, and take-offs for HVAC, hydronic heating, and airconditioning systems. ● Perform pipework design, flow calculations, and thermal load assessments (heat loss/gain,pump and heat pump sizing). ● Build and maintain estimating templates, cost libraries, and take-off lists. ● Use H2X for mechanical design and calculations. ● Operate within SimPRO for job costing, quoting, and project workflows. Project Support ● Draft and review project documentation and mechanical specifications. ● Assist with tenders, proposals. ● Track and compare estimates against actual project outcomes to improve accuracy. ● Introduce value engineering and alternative design/materials for cost and performance optimisation. Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination ● Maintain communication with suppliers for updated pricing and availability. Compliance & Standards ● Ensure all designs and estimates comply with relevant Australian codes and standards (particularly NSW, ACT, VIC). ● Collaborate with internal teams to ensure feasibility, compliance, and best-practice design solutions. Requirements: ● Mechanical engineering background, or strong hands-on estimating experience in HVAC / hydronic heating / heat pump / geothermal systems. ● Minimum 2 years of estimating/design experience in HVAC, hydronic, or mechanical engineering. ● Strong knowledge of hydronic heating, air conditioning systems, and pipework design. ● Proficiency with H2X and SimPRO (or proven ability to learn quickly). ● Demonstrated experience working on Australian mechanical projects ● Excellent English communication skills (verbal & written) – able to interact confidently with clients, builders, and the internal team. ● Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple estimates and deadlines. ● Comfortable working remotely with direct reporting lines to senior management. Purpose of Role: Under the supervision of the National Estimating Manager, the Estimator will closely liaise with Client Project Managers (PMs), Quantity Surveyors (QS), and key subcontractors during the tender preparation process to clarify scope, design issues, and achieve the most accurate pricing. The Estimator will lead and take ownership of allocated tenders, prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and professional tender submissions. Additionally, the Estimator will assist the National Estimating Manager, State Manager, and Project Managers through different stages of the tendering process and preparation of variation submissions during the construction phase.
Direct Reporting: ● To the National Estimating Manager Job Duties: ● Estimate from first principles to completion and submission of tenders as well as post-tender requirements nationally. ● Carefully inspect tender documentation, analyze exact requirements, and identify areas that may have implications for the company. ● Utilize current systems and processes (Bluebeam and Intellibid) to provide subcontractors and suppliers with tender documentation. ● Perform take-offs. ● Check through the proposed job section by section and trade by trade, noting or querying discrepancies with the Client as soon as possible. ● Prepare a list of required documentation for submission and issue requests to all parties involved. ● Discuss and assist in the construction sequence of projects with the National Estimating Manager/State Manager to determine a proposed construction period. ● Use information gained to calculate preliminary allowances. ● Prepare for a final review of the tender with the National Estimating Manager and State Managers prior to submission. ● Submit all documentation and schedules to the Client ensuring all required documentation is included and respond to all post-tender requirements. ● Follow-up on tenders while maintaining notes of any discussions and/or relevant market intelligence, and update the estimating register with all tender information and updates. ● Assist other Estimators by sharing information and supporting major tenders. ● Undertake other duties as directed by the National Estimating Manager within the scope and level of this position. ● Attend weekly Estimating meetings and other Estimating meetings as directed by the National Estimating Manager.
