Job Description
Department: Internal IT, delaware International
Reports to: CIO
About the Role
- delaware International is growing, and so is the complexity of our IT landscape. As Head of Application Management, you will be responsible for governing the entire internal IT application portfolio within delaware International's IT department.
- Your mission is to drive application governance, rationalization, and optimization, ensuring that our technology supports our business effectively while reducing unnecessary complexity. While delaware International is an IT professional services company, this is not a consulting role.
- This is a long-term, internal leadership position, focused on building and optimizing our internal IT landscape—not on client-facing projects. While internal IT falls within your governance scope, a significant part of our IT landscape is business-led, managed within individual delaware country organizations. These teams operate with a high degree of autonomy, making standardization and alignment a matter of influence rather than enforcement. Instead of dictating decisions, you will need to engage in dialogue, find synergies, and eliminate inefficiencies by building trust and demonstrating value.
- This is not a command-and-control role, nor is it about 'conquering' IT domains. Success in this position will come from consultative leadership—selling ideas, aligning teams, and driving buy-in rather than imposing solutions. Patience, resilience, and strong relationship-building skills will be essential.
- This is a new leadership role, giving you the opportunity to shape our application strategy, guide our teams, and ensure that technology serves as a business enabler, not an obstacle.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal IT Application Governance
• Own and manage delaware International's internal IT application portfolio, ensuring alignment with business needs.
• Drive structured application governance, standardizing lifecycle management, rationalization, and optimization.
• Maintain a cohesive and future-proof roadmap, ensuring we reduce redundancy while keeping flexibility where needed.
• Oversee a diverse set of applications, including in-house (.NET), ERP (SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud, SuccessFactors), SaaS solutions, and other platforms (SAP CPI, SAP BTP add-ons, PowerPlatform, etc.).
• Partner with procurement and finance to ensure cost-effective decision making across the application landscape.
2. Leadership & Team Development
• Lead and mentor a team of application owners, product managers, software engineers, and (internal and external) suppliers, helping them grow into a high-performing unit.
• Align teams around a clear application vision, ensuring consistency across different applications and regions.
• Instill a culture of structured governance without unnecessary bureaucracy, balancing agility with long-term strategy.
3. Business Engagement & Strategic Alignment
• Engage with business-led IT teams across delaware's country organizations, identifying opportunities for collaboration and efficiency gains.
• Foster an open dialogue with business stakeholders, positioning IT as a partner rather than a gatekeeper.
• Influence through consultative leadership, selling ideas rather than imposing solutions—requiring patience, resilience, and strong relationship-building skills.
• Ensure IT applications act as business enablers, proactively identifying opportunities where technology can streamline operations, drive revenue, or enhance efficiency.
• Establish a framework for evaluating new tools and technologies, ensuring that innovation supports our strategic goals.
Who We're Looking For
- You have 10-15 years of experience in application management, IT leadership, or a related field, with a strong foundation in software engineering, SAP consulting, or software architecture. You have proven leadership experience, managing teams and aligning diverse IT stakeholders across a global, multientity organization. Your application architecture expertise spans custom-built applications (.NET), ERP (SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors), SaaS solutions, and integration platforms (SAP CPI, SAP BTP add-ons, etc.).
- You understand the challenges of internal IT vs. business-led IT, and you know how to build bridges rather than enforce rigid standards. A deep business acumen, particularly in professional services, enables you to translate business needs into application roadmaps that drive tangible value. You're a strategic thinker but also hands-on—pragmatic, action-oriented, and not afraid to get involved.
- You excel in influencing without authority, with the ability to sell ideas rather than impose decisions. You have the patience and resilience to navigate complex stakeholder environments, aligning teams without resorting to command-and-control tactics.
- Experience with SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud, SAP BTP, CPI, and SaaS ecosystems is an advantage, as is a background in supplier and contract management to ensure cost-effective partnerships.
Work Environment & Travel
- Flexible working model—offices available worldwide (Belgium, Hungary, Philippines, Malaysia).
- Ad hoc travel when required, but most collaboration happens remotely via Microsoft Teams.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
Key success factors will include:
- Establishing structured, scalable application governance, balancing control with business flexibility.
- Driving collaboration between internal IT and business-led IT, identifying synergies and reducing waste.
- Ensuring IT applications enable business growth, rather than adding complexity.
- Elevating the application owner community, developing stronger capabilities across the team.
- Strengthening trust between IT and the business, positioning IT as a valuable partner.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to build and lead a newly created function within a fast growing, international company.
- A high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CIO.
- A dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment where you have the autonomy to shape the future of our applications.
- Long-term career growth opportunities as delaware International expands.
