JOB DESCRIPTION:
Design Engineering
Provide top-quality and accurate topographical and geomatics engineering expertise that meets INTEC and our clients' requirements by undertaking the following:
Key tasks:
- Develop high-quality digital terrain models (DTMs), (digital elevation models) DEMs, and contour maps to support solar farm, BESS, and substation layout design.
- Perform earthwork volume, grading, and cut/fill analyses to optimize site platforms, drainage paths, and construction efficiency.
- Collect, import, and process topographic, LiDAR, UAV, GPS, and Total Station survey data provided by field teams and external consultants.
- Develop preliminary and detailed earthworks designs, including grading, cut/fill balancing, drainage paths, and platform levels for solar arrays, substations, and BESS facilities.
- Perform quantity take-offs, material estimation, and bill of quantities for earthworks and associated civil works.
- Provide geomatics data and models as a design basis for in-house civil, structural, and electrical design teams.
- Prepare detailed site layout drawings in Civil 3D/AutoCAD, 12D, for access roads, drainage systems, cable trenches, and structural platforms.
- Prepare and maintain survey base drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D, 12D, (or equivalent) and ensure integration with GIS/BIM systems.
- Support design development for tracker layouts, substation benching, access roads, drainage systems, and underground cable routing using processed topographic data.
- Cross-check alignment of survey data with geotechnical and structural models for foundation and retaining wall designs.
- Prepare topographic base maps, survey reports, and supporting documentation for design packages, tender submissions, and client reviews.
- Maintain organized databases of survey and geomatics information, ensuring version control and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide visualizations (3D terrain, profiles, cross-sections) to support engineering decision-making and project presentations.
- Provide technical inputs during early project phases (feasibility, concept, tender design) and support detailed design and IFC package preparation.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary EPC teams (civil, structural, electrical, and geotechnical) to ensure design is based on accurate and up-to-date geomatics data.
Financial management and reporting
- Responsible for ensuring that decisions are made within approved business unit budget and financial delegated authority.
- Provide regular reporting to Engineering Manager AU/NZ on status of all design work.
- Contribute to feasibility and option analysis in the early stages to support business case development and tender responses.
Continuous improvement
- Apply advanced digital survey tools (e.g., LiDAR point cloud modelling, UAV mapping, 3D GIS integration) to improve efficiency of in-house design workflows.
- Stay updated on emerging geomatics technologies and software relevant to renewable energy and substation development.
- Strong focus on identifying and suggesting ways to improve practices and processes that are hampering the smooth operation of the day to day running of the project.
- Support the development of innovative strategies to ensure operational efficiencies, processes and practices.
- Proactively seek opportunities to save unnecessary costs to the project (without compromising quality).
- Contribute to the project review process, ensuring problems identified and possible solutions developed and feedback to operations team.
